Hi,
I am looking for info to the name of Solomon Ross' father. In the 1900 census he states that he is a full blood. Mary his wife states that they have had 6 children with only 1 living. His Dakota name was "Maza Hehaka" and hers was "Tunkana Ska Te Win". If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. Thankyou.

Hi, Solomon Ross served in the Yellowstone Expedition of 1873, if you can get to the LDS Church Research Center they can give you a blank form for National Archives Fedral Pension Record..
Samuel RedWolf was on the same expedition in 1873 and I got his pension file last year. It was 40 pages at least. If they return your request saying they found a file on Solomon Ross/Mazahehaka you would send them $35. then it takes about 2 or 3 weeks to get the file sent to you.

Hi,
Not only did Soloman Ross and Samuel Redwolf serve as Scouts together in 1873 but in 1884 they were both employed as Herders for Santee. And then in 1888 they are both policeman for Santee. I was thinking Solomon and Mary adopted Samuels first son, Charles. Charles mother Mdoza might have died after giving birth. On some of the Santee Census records I think I remember Charles living with Solomon and Mary.

Sara,
Thank you for clarifing the info I had. It was very confusing. However, on one of the Ross genealogies I have, Solomon is listed as a brother to Rev. Amos Ross and so I was trying to get it all straightened out.

Sara: The 1887 Santee Census lists Charles Wolfe Age 11 as a nephew living with Solonon and and Mary Ross. It also lists Joseph Ross Age 5 (deceased).Charles wolf again is listed on the 1895 Santee Census at age 19, as nephew living with Solomon and Mary Ross , and also ytheir daughter(no name listed) at age 1/3. I would suggest that you check your sources again. I have no record of Solomon Ross married to a M'dosa.I would appreciate your reference source for this particular information.
